NID provides design impetus to AP Medtech ZonePublish Date : Aug 14, 2018
AHMEDABAD: National Institute of Design (NID) and Andhra Pradesh Medtech Zone (AMTZ) jointly organized a design orientation programme at NID’s Ahmedabad campus on August 13. Based on the design promotion activity of Design Clinic scheme – an initiative of Ministry of MSME and NID – the orientation programme focused on medical devices sector and was attended by more than 150 participants including entrepreneurs, designers, academicians and government officials.
Professor Pradyumna Vyas, director of NID, focused on design intervention in the medical device sector during his interaction. “The sector is highly dominated by the import and there is a high potential for making the sector import-free by promoting better design,” he said.
Dr. Jitendra Sharma, MD and CEO of AMTZ, said that the government is supporting medical device manufacturing at Vishakhapatnam with world-class facilities.
A number of award-winning designers from the sector put forth their perspective along with case studies to stress upon factors such as product design, user interface, mobility and design enterprise.
Jitendra Singh Rajput, head of NID’s Design Clinic Scheme for MSMEs, mentioned that the design clinic has helped about 40 projects from medical sector. “such initiatives are expected to create a major impact on design among medical device sector of the country,” he said.
